The good folks over at the drag racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube are, as always, dwelling around their usual venue - Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey. By the way, this is NJ's only remaining dragstrip, so no one should be surprised that crowds are gathering for their popular 'Test & Tune' events.
We've seen here a lot of interesting automobiles – both import and domestic – including the mighty new 655-hp C8 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, all sorts of EVs (OK, mostly Teslas and a few Ford Mustang Mach-Es), as well as the latest muscle cars like the S650 seventh generation Ford Mustang Dark Horse, crossovers, trucks, and powerful foreign machines such as the R35 Nissan GT-R.
However, every time, the videographer behind this channel manages to surprise us with something cool from Island Dragway or all the other racetracks and dragstrips he likes to keep tabs on. For example, just recently, an orange S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 raced an old, first-generation Pontiac GTO and then also went on against another Mustang and another classic car.
Now, it's possible the same Pontiac GTO was also captured against a different kind of Ford Motor Company foe – a black and menacing Ford F-150 XL that's proudly part of the RCSB (Regular Cab Short Bed) community and also likes to take part in quarter-mile dragstrip action from time to time. Just by looking at them, you could almost think the old-school Pontiac GTO has a fighting chance.
However, the truck's pre-race burnout suggested otherwise, and when it roared off the start line, it became clear – the Pontiac GTO should have stayed put (again), as the F-Series was too much for it to handle. In fact, with that 10.96s victory against the opponent's 14.01s pass, it would obliterate a lot of modern sports cars out there, including the S650 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, for example.
Next up, the victorious Ford F-150 XL sleeper RCSB truck lined up with a crimson Fox Body Ford Mustang GT to show it who's the dragstrip daddy – 11s versus 15.36s is what obliteration looks like in quarter-mile form. Last but not least, a mightier opponent came along – a Mercedes-AMG E 63 S high-performance luxury sedan. Alas, this wasn't the day for sports cars, and the mighty Ford F-150 XL gave us another outstanding 11.06s performance against its opponent's 11.58s effort.
Hmm, we would have expected the German machine to perform a little better. However, the driver of the Ford F-150 XL obviously had a true winner's attitude, and he constantly beat everyone else's reaction times, too! That probably made everyone weary and frightened of the roaring V8 tucked under the truck's hood. What do you think?
